Udupi: Abharan Jewellers, ‘The Original’, Udupi, marked World Photography Day on August 25 by felicitating five renowned photographers for their contributions to the art and profession of photography. The event took place at the jeweller’s showroom, celebrating creativity and innovation in the field.
Felicitation of photographers
The programme began with a prayer rendered by staff member Ananya Achar. Businessman Vishwanath Shenoy graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Subhash M Kamath, Managing Director of Abharan Jewellers, honoured photographers Astro Mohan, Krishna Shirali, Naveen Ballal, Vidya P Hebbar and Anirudh Pai.
Guests highlight photography’s evolution
Speaking on the occasion, Vishwanath Shenoy praised the efforts of photographers and the organisers, saying, “Today we have the privilege of honouring photographers. Managing 20 branches of Abharan ‘The Original’ is not an easy task, yet it has been done with remarkable ease. The joy is visible not only on the faces of those felicitated but also among the organisers of this programme.”
Renowned photographer Astro Mohan traced the history of the day, recalling that photography was made publicly accessible by the French government on August 19, 1839. He emphasised, “Photography is not just about images; it is the creative vision of the photographer. While Artificial Intelligence has greatly impacted the imaging industry, I urge everyone to set AI aside and rely on their own creativity.”
Personal journeys shared
Senior photographer Naveen Ballal reminisced about the early days of black-and-white photography, saying, “In those days, a wedding album would have barely six photos, and it would take nearly two months to deliver them. Today, cameras are upgraded every six months, showing how far we have come.”
Photographer Anirudh Pai added, “Being recognised and felicitated motivates us to keep moving forward. While most people think of engineering and corporate jobs, photography too offers a rewarding career path.”
A celebration of art and vision
The programme was compered by Vijetha Shetty, who also welcomed the gathering. Staff members and well-wishers attended, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of honouring those who have captured life’s moments through their lenses.
Conclusion
By recognising photographers and their contributions, Abharan Jewellers reinforced the value of creativity and craftsmanship, showcasing how art and commerce can come together in celebration of excellence.
