BJP scores big in Udupi GP election

Udupi: The counting center was overcrowded in the initially, however the district maintained peace and order in the city. Once the result was declared the supporters celebrated the victory of their respective candidates.

SP visited the spot early in the morning and had a glance of the security arrangements at the counting center. The counting process was completed by 7.30 p.m. in Udupi and Kundapur, but got delayed in Karkala because of recounting for one seat.

Meanwhile minister in-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake speaking to the media said that the reason for the betterment of Congress in the GP election was the progressive development plans by the State government.

“In the previous MP election the Congress workers failed reach to the root level of the public”, he stated.

Furthermore he congratulated the workers for their dedication. He said that there are rumors that congress candidates and the party workers have distributed alcohol, money and clothes to the voters, which is absolutely false.

On the other hand district BJP president Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde said that Modi wave and administrative failure of the state governance led BJP to win with the majority in the district.

He congratulated the winners and said that the credit of BJP success goes workers who were successfully reached the voters. While criticizing Congress he added that they can only provide scams and scandals and not public friendly government.

As per the declared result BJP were leading with 5 seats. Out of 19 seats 12 were won by BJP in Udupi, however Kundapura favored congress. Taluk wise, BJP scored Kaup 17 out of 26 and 26 out of 34 in Karkala. In Kundapur, BJP won 24 and Congress won 29, with five remaining were undecided.

Meanwhile Ashfaq Ahmed (45) from Hoode, a polio effect candidate won the election from Paduthonse gram panchayath. At the age of six he was affected with polio. He has contested for 5 times and this is his first victory.  He won with a margin of 70 votes.

Fouziya Parveen and Sadik Ustad, husband and wife who had both won previously in the gram panchayath polls could not make it this time, but this time Sadik Ustad was defeated while his wife Fouziya Parveen won.

Several candidates won by one or two vote’s difference.
