Udupi: A daring attempted burglary by a gang of masked men in Kukkikatte created panic among residents in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident, which occurred around 1 a.m., has raised serious concerns over security in the locality.

First break-in attempt at Subrahmanya Nagar

According to police sources, three unidentified men wearing masks broke into the residence of Vittal Poojary at Subrahmanya Nagar, near Kukkikatte Muchhalagodu. The intruders allegedly ransacked the house in search of valuables. However, they left empty-handed after failing to find anything worth stealing.

Second attempt thwarted by alert residents

Undeterred, the gang reportedly moved towards another nearby residence. Their plans, however, were foiled when the occupants woke up and switched on the lights. Taken by surprise, the burglars fled the scene in haste.

CCTV footage provides vital clues

The entire sequence of events was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area. The footage shows the three men walking along the road and scanning houses before attempting to break in. Police believe the visuals will provide crucial leads in identifying the culprits.

Police response and investigation

The Udupi Town Police, upon receiving information, rushed to the spot and carried out a detailed inspection. They have collected CCTV footage from the locality and are currently analysing it to track down the gang.

Police officials have assured residents that increased night patrolling will be undertaken in sensitive residential pockets to deter such incidents. Meanwhile, locals have been advised to remain vigilant, ensure doors and gates are secured, and immediately alert authorities in case of suspicious movement.
