Udupi: To mark Doctors’ Day, Adarsha Hospital Udupi in collaboration with Adarsha Charitable Trust organized a free health check-up camp and a felicitation ceremony honoring the dedicated services of medical professionals.
The event was inaugurated by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, who lauded the district’s excellence in health and education sectors, noting that both teachers and doctors contribute significantly to society out of a sense of service beyond salary.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhid Gadyal, speaking on the occasion, compared the human body to the most complex machine, emphasizing the need for expertise and compassion in the medical field. He underlined that when healthcare is delivered with a service mindset, it transforms communities.
Former Minister Vinaykumar Sorake remarked that doctors are revered on par with God, especially for their role in counteracting the ill effects of modern dietary habits.
Presiding over the function, Dr G S Chandrashekar, Medical Director of Adarsha Hospital, stressed the need for a humane approach in medical practice. He pointed out that only 20% of the population can afford advanced treatments, calling on the government to bolster affordable healthcare infrastructure for the remaining 80%.
The event saw the felicitation of senior doctors including Prof N R Rao, Dr Nagaratna Shastri, Dr Rama Rao, Dr Vasudeva Upadhyay, Dr Prashant Bhat, Dr Shashikiran Achar, and Dr Bhavani Shankar.
Vimala Chandrashekar, CEO of Adarsha Hospital, was present. Anushree anchored the programme.
As part of the camp, free tests like CBC, blood sugar, fat analysis, liver scans, heart screening, and TMT were provided under specialist supervision.
