Udupi: The footbridge at Indrali railway station in Udupi continues to trouble passengers due to the absence of a roof, leaving them vulnerable to intense heat and torrential rains throughout the year.

Concerned about the ongoing discomfort, Udupi District Citizens Committee members — Nityananda Olakadu, K Balagangadhara Rao, and Taranath Mesta Shiruru — have appealed to local authorities, public representatives, and railway officials to act swiftly and install a protective covering over the bridge.

Every day, hundreds of daily commuters depend on the Indrali footbridge to move between platforms. However, the lack of shelter forces people to walk in blazing sunlight or get soaked during downpours. The situation worsens when platform changes are announced due to operational needs, compelling travelers to switch platforms at short notice, enduring the harsh weather as they cross the exposed bridge.

Particularly affected are elderly individuals, women carrying infants, and those with mobility challenges, who face immense physical strain while using the uncovered bridge in difficult weather conditions.

Residents and civic groups have stressed the urgency of constructing a roofed structure to offer comfort and protection for passengers. They argue that such an initiative is essential not just for convenience, but for the safety and dignity of all users of the railway station.

The committee hopes for prompt action to resolve the issue and improve travel conditions at Indrali station.
