Udupi: In a major breakthrough, Padubidri police have arrested two inter-state criminals responsible for a series of house thefts in Padubidri, Kota, and Kundapur police station limits in Udupi district.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ibrahim Kalandar, a resident of Kalai village, Puttur taluk, originally from Kumbale Mogral in Kasaragod district, and Riyaz, also known as Kadapa Riyaz, from Urmichal Bekur, Kumbale, Kasaragod.
The key incident in the case occurred on June 22, when a burglary was reported at the residence of Ganesh Prasad Shetty, located near Kamath Petrol Pump in Padebettu village under Padubidri police station jurisdiction. The thieves had decamped with a gold chain worth several lakhs.
Following the incident, a case was registered, and a detailed investigation was launched. Based on technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, the police were able to track down and apprehend the accused. In the operation, the authorities also seized a car used in the theft and recovered ₹24,000 in cash from the culprits.
The arrested duo was presented before the Udupi court, which has since remanded them to judicial custody.
The police continue to probe whether the accused were involved in other similar crimes across the region and have assured that efforts are ongoing to recover additional stolen items.
