Karkala: Police arrest accused following early-morning murder
A 50-year-old man, Naveen Poojary, was stabbed to death in the early hours of Tuesday at Kuntalpadi under Karkala town police limits. The police have arrested Parikshit (44), son of Sanjeev Gowda from Nada, in connection with the murder.
Naveen Poojary, a native of Mangaluru, had been residing at SJ Arcade in Karkala. According to police, his body was found on the roadside with multiple stab injuries.
Investigation and arrest
Authorities launched an immediate investigation, examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence, which confirmed Parikshit’s involvement. He was subsequently taken into custody.
Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar stated that preliminary investigations revealed a personal rivalry between the accused and the victim. Both men had been living separately from their families; Parikshit resided in a rented house at Doopadakatte in Karkala, while Naveen’s wife and children lived in Mangaluru.
Motive behind the attack
Police said that Naveen had developed a close friendship with a woman known to Parikshit, which reportedly angered Parikshit. The two men had frequent quarrels, and in a fit of rage, Parikshit allegedly attacked Naveen with a knife, resulting in his death.
SP Hariram Shankar visited the crime scene for inspection. A case has been registered at Karkala town police station, and further investigation is ongoing.
