Udupi: A large demonstration was staged by the Hindu Jagran Vedike Karnataka South Province in front of the Manipal District Commissioner’s office, condemning what they termed illegal police action against Hindu organization members in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
Hundreds of supporters assembled, raising slogans against the Congress-led state government’s measures.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Sunil K.R alleged that a deliberate plot was underway to weaken the morale of Hindu activists. He asserted that peace could only be secured by stopping love jihad, banning cow slaughter, and halting religious conversions. Instead of focusing on these issues, he said, the administration was targeting those who strive to safeguard their faith.
He claimed the state government was deliberately portraying the coastal belt as a hub of communal unrest to justify branding Hindu leaders as criminals and enforcing harsh laws against them. Sunil K.R argued that delivering nationalist speeches or spreading awareness was being criminalised, with authorities even conducting door-to-door searches of activists.
He expressed outrage that the Mangaluru division of Hinjewadi aimed to eradicate anti-national and anti-Hindu activities, but the government was obstructing such efforts.
Sunil K.R further charged that the so-called anti-communal wing was operating selectively against Hindus while ignoring other threats. He warned that Hindu activists would not remain silent if repressive actions continued and urged authorities to target love jihad and illegal slaughterhouses instead.
Several public representatives and community leaders, including MLAs Gurme Suresh Shetty, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Gururaj Gantihole, and BJP district president Kutyaru Naveen Shetty, attended the protest.
