Udupi: Police in Padubidri have arrested two individuals involved in a string of burglaries across several police limits in Udupi district, including Padubidri, Kota, and Kundapur.

The accused have been identified as Ibrahim Kalandar, from Kalayi House in Koila village, Puttur Taluk (Dakshina Kannada), and Mohammad Riyaz alias Kadappa Riyaz, hailing from Urmichal Bekoor, Kumbla in Kasaragod district.

According to Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, the duo were taken into custody on Saturday and have been remanded to judicial custody. Police also seized a car allegedly used during the crimes and recovered ₹24,000 in cash from the suspects.

The investigation stems from a case reported on June 22, where burglars entered the residence of Ganesh Prasad Shetty in Padebettu village under Padubidri police jurisdiction and stole ₹1.2 lakh in cash along with a gold chain worth ₹25,000.

Acting on the direction of SP Hariram Shankar and under the supervision of Addl. SP Sadananda S Nayak and Parameshwara Hegde, the operation was led by Dr. Harsha Priyamvada, ASP of Karkala sub-division. The accused were tracked down and apprehended from Sastha Nagar in Mogral Puttur, Kasaragod.

Ibrahim Kalandar has a long criminal history, with multiple theft cases at police stations in Karnataka and Kerala, including temples, shops, houses, and banks. He was last released from Hosadurga Jail, Kerala, in February.

Mohammad Riyaz also faces a murder charge at Kumbla station and a narcotics case in Puttur. He was freed from Kasaragod Sub Jail on May 12.
