Udupi: In light of continuous heavy rainfall across the district and forecasts of intensifying showers, the Udupi District Administration has declared a holiday for all schools on Wednesday, July 24, as a safety measure for students.
The order, issued by District Collector Dr. K Vidyakumari, applies to all Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, ITIs, and pre-university (PU) colleges. The decision comes as a precaution, prioritizing student safety amid worsening weather conditions.
However, the administration clarified that no holiday has been declared for degree colleges, postgraduate institutions, diploma colleges, or engineering colleges, which will function as usual.
Officials have urged parents, students, and institutions to stay updated through local channels and to take necessary precautions during the current spell of heavy rain. The district continues to remain on alert, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting heavy downpours and strong winds for the coastal belt over the next few days.
This precautionary step aligns with similar measures taken in nearby coastal regions experiencing adverse weather, and aims to minimize disruption while ensuring student welfare.
