Udupi: Responding to recent criticism, MP Kota Srinivas Poojary clarified that the central government has significantly increased the NREGA budget, raising it from ₹33,000 crore during the UPA era to ₹86,000 crore. He also highlighted that daily wages have grown from ₹150 to ₹370, underlining the government’s commitment to rural employment.
Speaking to the media, Poojary addressed Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar’s accusation that the state has not received NREGA funds from the Centre. He countered that ₹50.51 crore has already been disbursed for 7.90 lakh man-days in Udupi district alone. However, he admitted that some funds are still pending clearance from the Centre to the state.
On another front, Poojary responded to B.R. Patil’s allegations of corruption in the housing department. He pointed out that the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation has previously been embroiled in major graft controversies. He added that Deputy CM’s denial of corruption within the current administration is unconvincing, stating, “The truth of this corruption is as clear as a mirror.”
He further demanded that the Chief Minister act swiftly and seek the resignation of the Housing Minister, citing public accountability and transparency.
This statement adds fuel to the ongoing political debates surrounding welfare schemes and alleged corruption in Karnataka’s governance.
