The Udupi District National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has extended strong support to the initiative launched by District Superintendent of Police (SP) Hariram Shankar to establish anti-drug and awareness committees across schools and colleges in the district.

In a press release, District NSUI President Saurabh Ballal praised the SP’s proactive measures to curb drug abuse among students. He noted that students, particularly those from outside regions and abroad who pursue education in Udupi and Manipal, are often vulnerable to drug-related temptations and pressures.

Ballal emphasized the NSUI’s ongoing efforts in creating awareness through campaigns and pledged continued support to students struggling with addiction by offering counseling and facilitating medical treatment. “Our ultimate goal is to help students overcome dependencies and lead healthy lives,” he said.

The press release also raised concerns over drug trafficking in educational hubs like Udupi and Manipal, where narcotics are reportedly being sourced from international locations. Ballal welcomed SP Shankar’s decision to form anti-drug committees in every college, which will be tasked with holding awareness programs and conducting blood tests for students.

“Udupi District NSUI firmly stands in solidarity with this commendable initiative,” Ballal said, assuring complete cooperation with law enforcement agencies and educational institutions. He stressed that a united effort from all stakeholders is essential to building a drug-free academic environment.
