Udupi: The Udupi District Special POCSO Court has awarded 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment to two men in separate child protection cases registered in 2024 at Byndoor and Padubidri police stations.
The first convict, Raghavendra Gonda (35) of Gangnadu, Byndoor, was sentenced in connection with a Byndoor police case. The second, Manjunath Patrot (23) from Badami in Bagalkot district, was convicted in a Padubidri police case.
Court statistics for July 2025 show that 320 cases were concluded across various courts in the district. Of these, 188 resulted in convictions or monetary penalties.
In a separate verdict, the Kundapur Traffic Police’s 2019 case involving a fatal road accident ended with the accused receiving an 18-month prison sentence and a fine of ₹9,000.
