Udupi Police Superintendent Dr Arun K has issued a clarification following allegations from villagers in Mundli, Shirlalu, Karkala taluk, claiming that police attempted to halt a Yakshagana performance on the night of January 15.

In his statement, Dr Arun K explained that the police had received complaints about the event, particularly concerning the use of loudspeakers without prior approval, which was disturbing the local community. After investigation, it was confirmed that the organizers had not secured the necessary permissions for either the event or the use of loudspeakers.

“At 11:30 PM, the police instructed the organizers to stop using loudspeakers, but they refused and continued the performance until 4:30 AM,” Dr Arun K said. As a result, a case was filed at the Ajekar Police Station for holding the event without permission and violating noise regulations.

The SP stressed that permission is required for public cultural events and the use of loudspeakers. He further emphasized that the police would take action in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines if complaints regarding such disturbances are received.

“Prior permission is mandatory for conducting cultural events and using loudspeakers, and we are committed to enforcing these rules,” Dr Arun K added.
