Udupi: In a significant breakthrough, Udupi police have arrested two inter-state criminals involved in a recent theft at a public utility residential complex located in the Mission Compound area.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bangad Ramesh Jawan Singh (37) and Kaliya Kalu (25), both natives of Madhya Pradesh. The duo has a notorious history and is reportedly involved in multiple thefts across Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Police recovered a substantial haul of stolen items from their possession, including various silver ornaments such as anklets, waist chains, bracelets, bowls, and decorative lights made of brass. The total seizure amounts to 681.830 grams of silver, valued at ₹80,970, 470 milligrams of gold, and ₹1,700 in cash.
According to officials, the accused are linked to at least three theft cases registered at the Udupi City Police Station in 2024 alone. Investigations have revealed that they operated as part of a larger gang targeting homes across districts. They have been previously booked in theft-related cases in Maharashtra as well.
The arrests were made possible through swift investigative work and coordination with law enforcement in other states. The police are continuing efforts to trace their accomplices and recover additional stolen property.
