Udupi: Veteran Yakshagana performer Jalavalli Vidyadhara Rao was conferred the prestigious Yaksha Sadhak Award at a grand ceremony held at Ajjarkad Town Hall, Udupi. The award function was organized by the Belanje Sanjeev Hegde Trust in collaboration with the Dr. G. Shankar Family Trust and Ujwal Developers.

Presiding over the event, Manipal MAHE Co-Chancellor Dr. H.S. Ballal stressed the need to revive interest in Yakshagana among the youth. “Though Yakshagana is seen everywhere, youth involvement is dwindling. To preserve this rich art form, it is crucial to encourage young minds,” he noted. Dr. Ballal also announced the launch of a Yakshagana certificate course at MAHE’s Yakshagana Center from this academic year.

The ceremony featured tributes and wishes from several dignitaries. Yakshagana Center Advisory Committee member Bhuvan Prasad Hegde delivered the felicitation address. Philanthropist Dr. G. Shankar and Ujwal Developers promoter Purushottam Shetty also extended their wishes. Karunakar Shetty, owner of the Perdoor Mela, was in attendance.

The event began with a prayer by Guru Umesh. Yakshagana Center Advisory Committee President Palli Kishan Hegde delivered the welcome address and introductory remarks. The program was anchored by Dr. B. Jagadish Shetty, who also proposed the vote of thanks.
