Kathmandu: A family in the United States is desperately waiting for news of a couple and their two-year-old twins who remain missing after catastrophic floods struck the Nepal-China border.
The family’s relatives have been left anxiously searching for answers as rescue teams continue operations across areas badly affected by the disaster.
Parents and toddlers remain unaccounted for
The missing family includes a woman, her husband and their two-year-old twins. Their relative, Pennsylvania-based Jagannath Upadhyay, has been trying to find out what happened to them since communication was lost after the floods.
With roads, communication networks and other infrastructure badly affected, the family has struggled to establish contact or confirm their whereabouts.
Family hopes they escaped the floods
Upadhyay told CNN that he continues to hope his relatives managed to escape the worst of the flooding and are safe somewhere without access to a working network.
The uncertainty has made the wait particularly painful, with the family unable to know whether the missing parents and their young children have reached a safe location.
In an emotional message to his relatives, Upadhyay said: “I just want to say I love you.”
Search efforts continue amid devastation
The family is among many around the world waiting for information about relatives who went missing after the floods. People from more than 30 countries have reportedly been affected, including tourists, workers and those travelling through the Himalayan region.
Rescue teams are continuing to search affected areas, while authorities work to verify reports and locate people who remain unaccounted for.
