An Indiana man is being praised as a “good Samaritan” after rescuing two babies who were kidnapped during a car theft. On December 2, Robert Deane was outside his home in southeast Indianapolis when he spotted two baby car seats in a ditch. Upon closer inspection, he discovered two baby girls, aged 4 and 5 months, who had been taken in the stolen car earlier that day.
Deane immediately called the authorities, and the babies were found safe, despite the cold weather, which reached 27 degrees that day. The car had been stolen from a home on East Gimber Street, and police had been searching for the vehicle, a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, with the babies inside.
Deane, reflecting on the incident, said, “I’d do it again. If you see something, like a baby in a ditch, say something (and) do something.”
While the police continue to search for the car thief, they commended Deane for his quick thinking and bravery. “He did what any good person would do,” said an Indianapolis police spokesman. “He got those infants to shelter.”
