The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a fresh advisory urging Indian nationals in Iran to leave the country at the earliest, citing continued uncertainty despite a tentative ceasefire in the region.
Fresh advisory urges immediate exit
In its April 8 advisory, the embassy strongly advised Indians to “expeditiously exit Iran” using routes coordinated with the mission. Citizens were cautioned against travelling independently to border areas without prior consultation.
Officials reiterated that movement should only be undertaken in coordination with embassy authorities to ensure safety.
Emergency contacts and assistance provided
To support nationals still in Iran, the embassy has shared emergency contact numbers and an official email for assistance. Authorities have urged citizens to remain in touch and seek guidance before making travel decisions.
The advisory reflects ongoing concern over the volatile situation in the region.
Earlier advisory urged citizens to stay indoors
The latest directive follows an earlier advisory asking Indian nationals to remain indoors for 48 hours amid escalating tensions involving the United States, Iran, and Israel.
Citizens were advised to avoid sensitive locations such as military installations and high-rise buildings, and to minimise movement unless coordinated with officials.
India facilitates evacuation efforts
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has been actively coordinating evacuation efforts. According to officials, 1,862 Indians have already been assisted in leaving Iran via neighbouring countries such as Armenia and Azerbaijan.
This includes a significant number of students and fishermen, with authorities continuing to monitor developments closely.
Ceasefire in place but uncertainty remains
The advisory comes even as a tentative two-week ceasefire has been announced in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
However, concerns remain about the durability and scope of the agreement, with continued alerts and tensions reported across parts of West Asia.
Strategic concerns over key routes
The situation remains sensitive around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route, where control and access remain contentious.
Focus on safety and preparedness
Officials emphasised that ensuring the safety and welfare of Indian nationals remains the top priority. A dedicated control room has also been set up to assist citizens across the region.
With uncertainty persisting, authorities continue to urge caution and prompt action to avoid potential risks
