A devastating explosion in Syria’s Daraa province on Saturday resulted in the tragic loss of seven children, as reported by state media.

According to the state news agency SANA, the explosion occurred in the city of Sanamayn, claiming the lives of seven children and injuring two others, one of whom was a woman. The blast was attributed to an “explosive device” planted by terrorists, as stated by a police source.

However, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights provided a slightly different account, reporting that eight children of varying ages lost their lives in the explosion, with another child sustaining injuries.

The monitor suggested that militias may have planted the device with the intention of targeting an unidentified individual in the area.

Daraa, once the epicenter of the 2011 uprising against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, came under government control in 2018 following a ceasefire agreement facilitated by Russia. Despite this, the province has continued to face challenges, including violence, clashes, and difficult living conditions.

The tragic incident underscores the ongoing turmoil and suffering endured by civilians in Syria, where the protracted war has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, displaced millions, and caused extensive damage to the country’s infrastructure and economy.
