Fresh layoffs at Meta have triggered emotional reactions online after an employee claimed a highly dedicated teammate was fired despite consistently strong performance and months of intense work pressure.

The anonymous post, shared on workplace forum Blind, described the employee as “humble”, “reliable” and extremely hardworking. According to the post, the woman often slept less than four hours while working on a high-priority project with tight deadlines.

‘She gave everything to the company’

The employee claimed the teammate frequently worked late into the night and continued contributing despite falling sick due to overwork.

“I saw her publishing commits at 3 am, then again at 6 am,” the post reportedly stated, expressing shock over the sudden layoff.

The message quickly went viral among tech workers, many of whom said layoffs in major technology companies are increasingly linked to restructuring and AI-focused business decisions rather than employee performance.

Several users also discussed “survivor’s guilt”, where remaining employees feel emotional distress after seeing hardworking colleagues lose their jobs.

AI restructuring reshaping tech jobs

Meta recently began laying off nearly 8,000 employees globally as part of a major restructuring focused on artificial intelligence. The company is reportedly shifting thousands of employees into AI-native teams while reducing management layers and closing open positions.

The layoffs are expected to affect engineering and product divisions significantly. Similar job cuts have also been reported across other technology firms including LinkedIn.

The viral post has once again highlighted growing concerns around workplace burnout, employee wellbeing and the changing culture inside the global technology industry.
