Islamabad: Mumbai attacks mastermind and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief, Hafiz Saeed, has filed a petition in the United Nations urging his name to be struck off from the global list of designated terrorists.
Saeed, also the co-founder of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), was designated as a global terrorist by the UN under the Security Council Resolution 1267 in December 2008, following the 26/11 Mumbai attacks that claimed 164 lives. He carried a bounty of $10 million on his head for his terror activities.
However, last week, he was freed by Pakistan after remaining under house arrest for 297 days. He had filed the UN petition through a Lahore-based law firm while he was still under house arrest.
His release was condemned from various quarters.
