Gadag: Theatre person Prasanna ended his fast on Tuesday following a written assurance by the State government that it would look into his demands related to handloom sector.
Prasanna was on an indefinite fast at Gajendragad in Gadag district since October 31 seeking revival of handloom sector in the State.
Prasanna’s decision to drop his agitation came after Gadag Deputy Commissioner Prasannkumar and Managing Director of Karnataka Handloom Corporation (KHDC) R Raju and other officials handed over a written communication to hold a high-level meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to deliberate on issues raised by Prasanna.
Accordingly, the meeting will be held in Bangalore on November 11 and all the stakeholders will be invited to share their views.
This apart, a high-level committee, headed by the Development Commissioner, will also be set up to look into the issues, the government has assured Prasanna.
The members of the Powerloom Weavers’ Associations as they doubted the intentions of his fast. Some had even alleged that implementation of the Handloom Reservation Act would adversely affect them.
