Islamabad: The rail service between Lahore and Wagah has resumed its operation on Sunday, December 15. What makes this important is that the lines have resumed operations after 22 years.
According to the reports in Pakistani daily ‘Dawn’, the train fare has been fixed at PKR 30 and the train would complete three trips in a day carrying over 1000 passengers.
After inaugurating the rail lines today, Pak railway minister Sheik Rashid said that by opening the rail lines, Pak government wanted to revive the connection of Lahore metropolitan city with its suburbs.
He said that following the Lahore-Wagah train service, Lahore-Raiwind train service also would start in another 15-day time.
The Lahore-Wagah provides hassle-free travel to commuters, who visit the ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony at the Wagah Border and also those who visit Jallo Park.
It can be recalled that the Lahore-Wagah train service which had begun in 1997 had closed several years ago, due to security reason.
