The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the arrest of 93 individuals at USC, stating that the university’s private campus regulations were violated, leading to assistance with the arrests, according to Los Angeles Police Captain Kelly Muniz.
Additionally, one person was apprehended for assault with a deadly weapon, as reported by CNN. No injuries to protesters or officers were documented, according to law enforcement.
According to USC Department of Public Safety directives, protesters were instructed to disperse or face trespassing charges at Alumni Park on Wednesday afternoon. Tensions escalated when protesters refused to comply with relocation orders, prompting the closure of the campus and subsequent arrests by the LAPD.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has called for the resignation of Columbia University’s president amidst ongoing demonstrations fueled by pro-Palestinian sentiments at various American universities. At Columbia University, demonstrators advocate for severing ties with Israeli academic institutions and complete divestment from entities linked to Israel in light of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Furthermore, protests at the University of Texas in Austin led to over 30 arrests.
