Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit China from May 19 to 20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to Russia’s Foreign Ministry. The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the “Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation”, considered a key framework in relations between the two countries.

The visit is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

Leaders to discuss strategic cooperation

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Putin and Xi are expected to hold discussions on bilateral relations, strategic cooperation and major international and regional issues.

The leaders are also expected to participate in the official inauguration ceremony of the “Years of Education of Russia and China for 2026–2027”, a programme aimed at enhancing educational and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

Officials stated that both sides are likely to sign a joint statement along with several bilateral agreements during the visit.

Trade and economic ties on agenda

The visit programme will also include a meeting between Putin and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
