Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his annual address on Thursday, emphasized the importance of family and health for the well-being of Russian citizens, while also addressing geopolitical concerns.

Putin cautioned NATO countries against escalating support for Ukraine and asserted the strength of Russia’s nuclear capabilities, issuing warnings to Western allies contemplating intervention in Ukraine.

However, a significant portion of Putin’s address centered on domestic affairs, particularly promoting family values and healthier lifestyles among Russians. He underscored the pivotal role of families in sustaining the nation’s multi-ethnic fabric, contrasting it with what he viewed as the erosion of moral standards in some other countries.

Putin asserted that Russia upholds traditional values that resonate globally, especially among millions in Western nations. He advocated for increased support for families, emphasizing the need for multi-child households as a cornerstone of state policy.

To support these initiatives, Putin outlined various programs aimed at assisting parents and incentivizing household formation. These included proposals to extend benefits such as the “maternity capital” scheme and doubling tax deductions for parents with multiple children.

Additionally, Putin highlighted the importance of prioritizing health, celebrating the growing number of Russians engaging in sports activities. He announced forthcoming incentives, including tax deductions for individuals undergoing regular medical check-ups and meeting fitness standards.

Addressing concerns about alcohol consumption, Putin acknowledged progress in reducing alcohol intake, particularly strong spirits, without resorting to extreme measures. He expressed optimism about improving the nation’s health outcomes through such measures.
