Recently, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi de-facto ruler Prince Mohammed bin Salman convened for an official meeting at Al-Safa Palace in Mecca, where they underscored the necessity of dialogue between Pakistan and India to address their unresolved issues, notably highlighting the Kashmir matter, according to a report by news agency PTI.

Following the meeting on April 7, a joint statement was issued, emphasizing the strengthening of fraternal ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, along with exploring avenues for increased collaboration across various sectors.

The statement further indicated discussions on regional concerns, including the Kashmir issue, with both leaders emphasizing the significance of dialogue between Pakistan and India to resolve outstanding issues, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, aiming for regional peace and stability, as reported by PTI.

India has consistently asserted that the Kashmir matter is a bilateral affair between itself and Pakistan, rejecting any involvement or mediation from third parties.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated notably after the Indian government revoked Article 370 of the Constitution on August 5, 2019, thereby nullifying the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and restructuring the state into two Union territories. Pakistan responded strongly to this move, downgrading diplomatic ties and expelling the Indian envoy. India maintains that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country.

Despite this, India has expressed its desire for normal, peaceful relations with Pakistan, devoid of terrorism, hostility, and violence.

Additionally, the joint statement highlighted Saudi Arabia’s supportive role in Pakistan’s economy and the shared commitment to bolstering trade and investment ties.

Both parties affirmed their dedication to accelerating the previously discussed $5 billion investment package.

Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to Prince Mohammed bin Salman to undertake an official visit to Pakistan, which was accepted by the Crown Prince.
