Washington: Donald Trump has said that Israel will not carry out further attacks on Iran’s key energy facility, even as he warned Iran against escalating the conflict by targeting Gulf infrastructure, particularly in Qatar.

Trump distances US from gas field strike

In a statement, Trump confirmed that the recent strike on the South Pars Gas Field — one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves — was carried out solely by Israel.

He stressed that the United States had no prior knowledge of the operation and that Qatar was also not involved.

“Israel… has violently lashed out at a major facility known as South Pars Gas Field. A relatively small section of the whole has been hit,” Trump said, adding that no further strikes are expected on the site.

Warning against retaliation

Trump’s remarks came amid rising tensions after Iran reportedly threatened retaliation against energy infrastructure across the Gulf region.

Iranian authorities had warned that facilities in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar could be targeted, signalling a potential widening of the conflict.

Strike on Qatar’s LNG hub

Shortly after the threats, Iran launched missile strikes on Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar’s main liquefied natural gas hub and a cornerstone of its economy, according to official sources.

The attack has heightened fears of disruption to global energy supplies, as the Gulf region plays a critical role in oil and gas exports.

Trump criticised Tehran’s move, calling it an “unjustified” escalation and warning against further strikes on allied infrastructure.

Global energy markets on edge

The escalating conflict has already triggered a sharp rise in global oil prices, with markets reacting to fears of supply disruptions in the Gulf.

Energy routes and facilities in the region are considered highly sensitive, especially amid ongoing tensions involving major global powers.

Broader regional tensions

The latest developments are part of a wider conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States, with repeated exchanges of strikes raising concerns of a prolonged regional war.

Trump reiterated that Washington is not directly involved in the South Pars attack, while cautioning Iran against miscalculations that could draw more countries into the conflict.

Conclusion

With both sides issuing warnings and targeting critical infrastructure, the situation in West Asia remains volatile. Trump’s assurance that Israel will avoid further strikes on Iran’s gas field may offer temporary relief, but the risk of escalation continues to loom large.
