A 22-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district was killed while serving in the Russian army during the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, with his family alleging that he was forced into military service after travelling abroad for work.
Youth had gone abroad seeking employment
The deceased, identified as Mohd Shaved from Mawasi village, had reportedly travelled to Russia in search of employment. According to his family, he had initially informed them that he would be working in a steel furniture-related job.
However, circumstances later changed, and he allegedly became part of the Russian military.
Family alleges coercion into army
Relatives claim they are still unaware of how Shaved ended up in the armed forces. They suspect that he may have been coerced into joining the military.
The family referred to an audio clip circulating on social media in which Shaved reportedly said his life had been “ruined” and that he had not anticipated such a situation when he left India.
Killed during ongoing conflict
According to reports, Shaved was shot during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and died on the spot.
His body was brought back to Rampur, where last rites were conducted after completing necessary formalities.
Authorities monitoring situation
Local authorities have stated that the situation in the village remains calm. Somendra Meena confirmed that police are monitoring the area, with no signs of tension reported so far.
Growing concerns over overseas employment risks
The incident has raised concerns about the risks faced by individuals travelling abroad for employment without verified channels. Families and officials have urged greater awareness and caution to prevent such situations.
