KOZHIKODE — Bengaluru police will investigate a sexual assault case involving filmmaker Ranjith, following a complaint from a youth in Mankavu. The Kasaba police, initially handling the case, will transfer it to Karnataka police since the alleged crime occurred in a Bengaluru hotel.
The complaint, filed on August 31, accuses Ranjith of sexually assaulting the youth and taking nude photographs of him in 2012. Charges include IPC Section 377 (unnatural sex) and various sections of the Information Technology Act. The complainant, who knew Ranjith during the filming of Bavuttiyude Namathil, also alleges that the director sent these photos to actress Revathy.
In addition to this case, Ranjith faces another sexual assault charge from a Bengali actress who accused him of inappropriate behavior during the making of Paleri Manikyam in 2009. Despite seeking anticipatory bail, Ranjith’s plea was denied by the High Court. He has since resigned as chairman of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy following the allegations.
