Three men, including two lecturers from a private college in Moodabidri, Dakshina Kannada, were arrested for allegedly exploiting a student after misleading her into coming to Bengaluru.

The young woman, enrolled in the same college, filed a complaint with the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, which triggered immediate police action. Narendra, a physics lecturer, reportedly called her to the city under the guise of sharing study materials. Later, she was subjected to criminal intimidation and abuse.

Sandeep, who teaches biology, allegedly threatened her using a video recorded without her consent to force further compliance. Anup, a friend of the lecturers, is accused of intimidating her by claiming he possessed surveillance footage to pressure her further.

Authorities said the incidents took place about a month ago, but came to light only after the student informed her parents. Following this disclosure, the Women’s Commission received a formal complaint and alerted law enforcement.

Based on the Commission’s recommendation, Marathahalli Police registered a First Information Report and detained all three individuals involved.

Ramesh Banoth, Joint Commissioner of Police for East Division, stated: “The case was formally registered on July 5. We acted on the survivor’s statement and information provided by the Women’s Commission. All suspects have been taken into custody, and a detailed investigation is progressing.”
