Tragedy struck a Bengaluru old age home when an elderly couple was found hanging inside their room on Tuesday morning. The deceased have been identified as R Krishnamurthy (81) and K Radha (74), originally from Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

The couple had moved into the Kamalamma Ramakrishnappa old age home in Talaghattapura on May 18, after leaving the home of their son, K Vijay, a tech firm director, and his wife. They had been staying with the couple at their apartment in Doddakallasandra, but Vijay stated his parents were unhappy with the food and had ongoing differences with the family.

According to police, the deaths came to light when an attendant knocked on the couple’s door to serve tea and received no response. Peering through the ventilator, the staffer discovered them hanging. Police were immediately alerted and broke open the door, but both were already deceased. No suicide note or digital message has been found.

Vijay filed a police complaint, stating that his parents had previously stayed in another old age home in Byatarayanapura in 2021, returned in 2023, and were moved again this May due to recurring complaints. He mentioned a heated argument between them over television on the night of June 23, after which they had dinner and went to bed. By the next morning, both were found dead.

Meanwhile, Elders Helpline 1090 recorded 41,343 calls in the city between April 2022 and March 2025 — many highlighting neglect and abuse by family members.
