A tragic accident in southeast Bengaluru on August 18 claimed the lives of two labourers and left two others injured after they accidentally came in contact with a high-tension wire.

The victims have been identified as Ashan Ali (40) and Abdul Khayum (42), while their co-workers Mohidul Islam (27) and Momrej Ali (20) are receiving treatment in hospital. All four were employees of BMS Tent House.

According to police, the men were engaged in removing a canopy tent outside the Dakshin Honda two-wheeler showroom on Hosur service road, Singasandra, around 4 pm. While dismantling the tent, one of the poles being lifted accidentally touched an overhead live wire, causing all four to collapse on the spot. They were immediately rushed to hospital, but doctors declared Ashan and Khayum dead.

In his complaint, survivor Momrej Ali alleged that neither the showroom management nor their employer provided basic safety gear while carrying out such risky work. Following the complaint, police registered a case against Dakshin Honda and BMS Tent House under BNS Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Section 125(b) (endangering life or personal safety of others).

Authorities said further investigation is underway to determine accountability and whether proper safety protocols were ignored.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for worker safety measures in temporary setups and construction-related work, where negligence often results in preventable tragedies.
