Mumbai: The creative pair Raj & DK, who are gearing up for the release of their streaming series ‘Guns & Gulabs’ this Friday, bring a distinct and lighthearted approach to their filmmaking process.
In a conversation with IANS, Raj Nidimoru mentioned that they prioritize a relaxed and interactive atmosphere on set, rather than being overly serious. This approach allows actors to explore their boundaries and deliver compelling performances in their projects.
Raj explained, “We don’t take ourselves as very stern filmmakers, at least outwardly. While our dedication to the craft and storytelling is unquestionable, we approach work with a sense of enjoyment. We treat work as fun and adopt a similar mindset. Our seriousness is directed towards comedy; we want our comedy to feel authentic and genuine.”
Krishna D.K., Raj’s creative partner, emphasized that their interactions with actors have always been instinctual. This is why they refrain from auditions and opt for a more organic process. He added, “We engage in conversations and gauge their potential. We skip rehearsals and workshops. Our work environment is naturally collaborative and interactive. This approach grants actors freedom. Our aim is to lead them into uncharted territory.”
Tanya Bami, the series head at Netflix, praised their efficiency in shooting despite the presence of humour and intricate elements. She mentioned how enjoyable it is to collaborate with them. For this particular series, the concept originated from four kids and a negotiation. They likened the series to a fusion of ‘Fargo’ and ‘Malgudi Days’.
‘Guns & Gulabs’ is scheduled to be available on Netflix this upcoming Friday.
