New Delhi: Actress Saiyami Kher, cast as a paraplegic athlete in the film ‘Ghoomer’, has shared insights into her comprehensive preparation – encompassing both physical and mental aspects – to craft her character.
She highlighted that one of her major sources of inspiration was the renowned cricketer Yuvraj Singh.
Saiyami conveyed that Yuvraj’s journey aided her in developing the right mindset for the role.
In her words, “To me, ‘Ghoomer’ signifies a tale of triumph. Yuvraj’s remarkable career has been an embodiment of inspirational triumph. Athletes not only ready themselves physically but also mentally. Yuvraj’s narrative has been a motivating force for me and many others like me.”
She further elaborated, “To achieve the pinnacle of his profession, battle cancer, and then make a triumphant return truly exemplifies his mental resilience. Yuvi is aware of my passion for cricket, and I’m eagerly awaiting his reaction to it.”
Written and directed by R Balki, the film stars Abhishek Bachchan as the lead, alongside Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi in crucial roles.
The plot revolves around Anina (played by Saiyami), a young cricket prodigy, who loses her right hand in a tragic incident on the brink of her international cricket debut.
An exasperated and unsuccessful cricketer enters her life, offering her a fresh aspiration. Through innovative training, he reshapes her destiny, enabling her to return to the Indian cricket team, this time as a bowler.
‘Ghoomer’ signifies the inventive bowling style they create to bewilder opponents.
The film draws inspiration from the extraordinary accomplishments of Karoly Takacs and special athletes who have exceeded expectations, even when labelled as “ordinary”.
‘Ghoomer’ is slated to premiere in theatres on August 18.
