Actor Vikrant Massey has found himself amidst controversy once again as an old tweet resurfaced on social media. The tweet from 2018, originally addressing the tragic gangrape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir, contained a cartoon depicting Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. This revival of the tweet has sparked fresh outrage among social media users.

In response, Vikrant Massey issued an apology on Wednesday, expressing regret for any hurt caused by the tweet. He stated, “In context to one of my Tweets way back in 2018, I’d like to say a few words: It was never my intention to hurt, malign or disrespect the Hindu community. But as I reflect in hindsight about a Tweet made in jest, I also realize the distasteful nature of it. The same could have been said without adding the cartoon which was published in a newspaper. And I’d with utmost humility like to apologize to each and everyone who has been hurt. As you all by now know, that I hold all faiths, beliefs and religions with the highest possible regard. We all grow up with time and reflect upon our mistakes. This was mine. Regards.”

The original tweet by Vikrant Massey featured an editorial cartoon where Goddess Sita remarks to Lord Ram, “I’m so glad I was kidnapped by Ravan and not by your bhakts!” Alongside the cartoon, Massey had written, “Half-baked potatoes and half-baked nationalists will only cause a pain in the gut. #KathuaCase #Unnao #Shame.” The tweet, which resurfaced on Tuesday, has since been removed.

This controversy emerges shortly after Vikrant Massey shared insights into his upbringing in an inclusive household during an interview. He revealed that his family members follow various religions, with his brother having converted to Islam at the age of 17. Massey discussed how his family supported his brother’s decision and emphasized the importance of individual choice in matters of faith.

In terms of his professional endeavors, Vikrant Massey’s latest project was the highly successful film “12th Fail,” which garnered both commercial success and critical acclaim upon its release in 2023.
