Intl Workshop on “Research Avenues in Computer Vision” held at PACE

Mangaluru: An International workshop on “Research Avenues in Computer Vision” was organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, P A College of Engineering, Mangalore on December 21.

The workshop was inaugurated at 10:30 am in the multi-purpose hall and the inaugural ceremony was presided by Honourable Principal Dr. Abdul Sharief. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were, Prof. Leonid Mestetskiy, Professor, Department of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, Moscow State University, Moscow, RUSSIA, Dr. Archil I Maisuradze, Associate Professor, Department of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, Moscow State University, Moscow, RUSSIA, Dr. B H Shekar, Professor, Department of Computer Science, Mangalore University, Prof. Surfaraz Hasim J, Director (Academics), and Dr. Sharmila Kumari, Coordinator of the workshop and HOD CS&E.

The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Leonid Mestetskiy on “Continuous morphology for computer vision applications”. He precisely described the importance of Computational Geometry to represent image datasets and various applications such as biometric, gait recognition, fall detection, shape analysis etc. and discussions were held on the subject.

Dr. Archil discussed the avenues for research in data mining areas and explored the applications of Computational mathematics for many data analytics problems. Dr. B H Shekar presented the “Role of local descriptors for computer vision applications” and also provided hands on experience on many state-of-the-art computer vision applications using Matlab tool.

The faculty/students were quite enthusiastic and actively participated in the entire workshop, solving the assignments. The feedback from the workshop was overwhelming.

Concluding remarks were made by Dr. Sharmila Kumari who gave an overall idea of integrating project works as a part of research work. Dr. Palakshappa, HOD, Department of Civil Engineering proposed vote of thanks and Prof. Ganesh Pai was the Master of Ceremony.
