Udupi: Elders Day was celebrated at Milagres Cathedral at Kallianpur on Sunday, December 4. The Eucharistic mass was celebrated by main celebrant Rev Fr. Nelson Furtado, Vocational Director of Pilar Fathers, Kallianpur along with Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo Rector of the Cathedral, Rev Fr. Henry Mascarenhas Chaplain of Ozanum Home for the aged, Rev Fr. Rolwin Aranha and Rev Fr. Prakash Anil Castelino asst. parish priests.Rev Fr. Nelson Furtado preached an inspiring homily. He said God never forgots elders. Elders’ past life and experience help in passing on the message to the next generation. Elders are of great value and have much to impart to us, he said.
A get together of elders of Milagres parish was held at Milagres Tri-centenary Hall after the mass. The programme started with an invocation prayer by parish choir team. Fr. Stany B. Lobo welcomed the gathering.
The chief guest and resource person of the day was Dr. Verupaksha Devaramane of Dr. A. V. Baliga Hospital, Udupi. Jacintha Lewis introduced the guest to the gathering. Dr. Verupaksha Devaramane spoke regarding elders’ problems in life and how to face such difficulties.
Romio Lewis former Administrator of Milagres Church spoke on elderly parishioners. Various spot games were conducted by Eugene Rebello. Fr. Stany B. Lobo gave his message to the elders and all participated.
Lilly Nazareth, former Headmistress of St. Joseph’s Higher Primary school proposed the vote of thanks. Eugene Rebello compered the programme. Fr. Henry Mascarenhas graced prayers on the meal. Large number of parish elders above 60 years participated in Elders’ Day celebration.
