Food Safety Violations at Zomato’s Hyderabad Warehouse
Hyderabad: Food safety officials uncovered significant violations at Zomato‘s Hyperpure warehouse in Kukatpally during an inspection on October 29, 2024. The inspection revealed 18 kilos of button mushrooms labeled as “packed” with a future packing date, a direct breach of food safety regulations.
This warehouse, classified as a Food Business Operator (FBO), supplies various food items to hotels and restaurants. Alongside the mislabeling, officials discovered other serious hygiene issues, including the presence of house flies and inadequate pest control measures. Many food handlers were found not wearing proper hair caps and aprons, which raised additional concerns regarding food safety practices.
Despite the warehouse holding a valid operating license and maintaining medical fitness certificates for staff, these findings highlight ongoing food safety challenges, especially as officials increase scrutiny ahead of the Diwali festival. This incident follows a previous raid in June at a Blinkit warehouse—also owned by Zomato—where similar hygiene violations were reported.
Zomato has not yet issued a public response regarding the recent inspection findings.
