Air India to Launch Direct Bengaluru-London Gatwick Flights

Air India announced introduction of direct flights between Bengaluru and London Gatwick (LGW) airport starting from August 18, solidifying Bengaluru as the fifth Indian city linked to the UK’s second-largest airport.

The airline is set to run five pairs of flights per week connecting Bengaluru and London Gatwick, bringing the total tally of flights to and from London Gatwick to 17 pairs weekly. These flights will be serviced by Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, equipped with 18 flat beds in Business class and 238 seats in Economy.

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, expressed enthusiasm about the new route, stating, “We are thrilled to provide our passengers with convenient non-stop flights between Bengaluru and London Gatwick. This addition caters to the increasing demand for travel between these significant business and leisure hubs, underscoring our commitment to expanding our global network.”

As per the official press release from Air India, flight number AI 177 will depart from Bengaluru at 13:05 IST (Indian Standard Time) and land in London Gatwick at 19:05 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). These flights are scheduled to operate on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Similarly, flight number AI 178 will depart from London Gatwick at 20:35 GMT on the same days and arrive in Bengaluru at 10:50 IST the following day. Bookings for these flights commenced on Friday.

Presently, Air India connects four Indian cities—Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Goa, and Kochi—to London Gatwick. Furthermore, the airline operates 31 pairs of flights per week to London Heathrow and six pairs of flights to and from Birmingham.
