The outrageous dowry prices of BPSC-passed teachers in Bihar are causing a stir. Mukesh Kumar Verma, a schoolteacher, got married for free in a widely shared video, but the unusual ceremony attracted attention. The crowd was telling Mukesh, the groom, to stop, but he insisted, saying, “Beat me if you must, but don’t conduct the wedding.”

The bride, Purnima, is seen in the video that is currently making the rounds online saying that Mukesh’s communication style drastically changed following the wedding. She claims that on a daily basis, Mukesh would say things that were similar to a line from the movie “Manjhi: The Mountain Man,” which goes, “Hey Junia, I would die for you.”

Since then, Mukesh, a teacher who passed the BPSC exam and was hired through the Bihar Public Service Commission Teacher Recruitment Exam in 2023, has been employed. In the widely shared video, Mukesh gives his viewpoint and the bride discusses their nontraditional wedding.

The video suggests that the wedding took place at Giddhaur Panch Mandir in Bamdah village, Chakai Block, Jamui district, late on Wednesday. Mukesh Kumar Verma hails from Beladari village, and the bride, Purnima Kumari, is from Kenduadih village.

Purnima claims that the couple had been together since 2015 and that their families approved of their marriage a year later. Mukesh, though, asserts that he is the victim of blackmail. He discloses in the video that he is being pressured to get married by someone who is threatening to make public a picture from 2018.

According to Braj Bhushan Singh, the in-charge of the Gidhaur Police Station, no formal complaint has been filed in this case as of yet. He said the police will take the proper legal action if a written complaint is filed. Numerous questions remain unanswered in light of the current circumstances, underscoring the necessity of a comprehensive investigation.
