New Delhi/Kolkata: Chaos broke out onboard an IndiGo Delhi-Kolkata flight on Monday when a passenger — a lawyer — allegedly chanted religious slogans, misbehaved with cabin crew, and disturbed fellow passengers under the influence of alcohol.
According to sources, the incident occurred on flight 6E 6571 on September 1, 2025, after the aircraft remained stranded at the parking bay for over 30 minutes. The lawyer, seated in 31D, allegedly carried liquor disguised in a soft drink bottle and began shouting “Har Har Mahadev” and urging others to chant “Jai Shri Ram.”
IndiGo’s statement
In a statement, IndiGo confirmed the incident, stating:
“We are aware of an incident of unruly behaviour onboard IndiGo flight 6E 6571 operating from Delhi to Kolkata on 01 September 2025. One of the customers onboard, under the influence of alcohol, was found to be misbehaving with the cabin crew and disturbing fellow passengers. In line with established protocols, the said customer was declared unruly and was handed over to security upon arrival. A formal complaint was also lodged with the relevant authorities.”
The airline reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against disruptive or abusive conduct and assured passengers of a safe, respectful, and inclusive travel environment.
Passenger handed over to police
The lawyer was handed over to security officials at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, where a police complaint was filed against him.
Lawyer’s counter-complaint
The accused passenger has, however, filed a counter-complaint, alleging harassment by the crew. He admitted carrying alcohol but claimed it was a beer bottle legally purchased from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, producing a receipt to support his claim.
Police have confirmed receiving complaints from both sides and are verifying the matter further.
