New Delhi: In another setback, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faces a weekend behind bars at Tihar Jail as the Supreme Court defers hearing his challenge to yesterday’s Delhi High Court ruling, sources said.

With the top court not convening until Monday, the AAP leader’s petition likely to come up on that day.

Sources said, the Supreme Court has opted against constituting a special bench for an urgent hearing of Kejriwal’s appeal. According to the court’s calendar, the court will remain closed for Eid-Ul-Fitr on Thursday, followed by a local holiday on Friday, and weekend.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal, brought the matter before Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud this morning, urging for an urgent hearing. However, the Chief Justice refrained from confirming a hearing today, stating, “We will see, we will look into it.”

Yesterday, the Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal’s challenge to his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case linked to Delhi’s now-scrapped liquor policy.

Delhi Minister, and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed confidence of a favourable verdict in Supreme Court. He claimed that the ED and the CBI did not find even a rupee during their searches in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

He charged that this is issue is not about money laundering, this is the biggest political conspiracy ever hatched in India’s history. Forget about crores of rupees, the probe agencies did not find a single rupee of illegal money during their searches, Bharadwaj, said.
