Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Hiked on Budget Day

New Delhi :Days before the unveiling of the Union budget on Thursday, oil marketing companies (OMCs) have implemented a price hike on commercial LPG, while the cost of domestic LPG remains steady. The commercial LPG cylinder, weighing 19 kg, has seen an increase in price, whereas the rates for the 14.2 kg domestic cylinder remain unchanged since August 2023.

On January 1, the commercial cylinder witnessed a price increase of ₹1.50, while domestic cylinder rates have remained static since August 2023. OMCs regularly review prices on the first of each month, which can either rise, fall, or remain stable.

Here are the updated prices for commercial LPG cylinders in four major metros:

  • Delhi: ₹1769.50, up from ₹1755.50
  • Mumbai: ₹1723.50, up from ₹1708.50
  • Kolkata: ₹1887, up from ₹1869
  • Chennai: ₹1937, up from ₹1924.50

Meanwhile, domestic LPG cylinder prices in the same metros remain constant:

  • Kolkata: ₹929
  • Chennai: ₹918.50
  • Delhi: ₹903
  • Mumbai: ₹902.50

Over the past three years, there have been nearly monthly adjustments in commercial cylinder rates, with approximately 50 changes since January 2021. In contrast, domestic cylinder rates have only been altered 17 times during this period. According to Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the price of a 19 kg cylinder on January 1, 2021, was ₹1349.
