New Delhi : The Ministry of Law and Justice has officially announced the appointment of Justice Pratinidhi Srinivasacharya Dinesh Kumar as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
According to the notification issued by the Ministry, this appointment is made under the authority vested by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, with Justice Dinesh Kumar set to assume office as Chief Justice upon assuming charge.
The decision to recommend Justice PS Dinesh Kumar for this role was made by the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, alongside Justices Sanjiv Khanna and B R Gavai.
This recommendation follows the elevation of Justice Prasanna B Varale to the Supreme Court, necessitating a new Chief Justice for the Karnataka High Court.
Justice Dinesh Kumar has been serving as a judge of the Karnataka High Court since January 2, 2015, gaining significant experience in both judicial and administrative matters. Although his tenure as Chief Justice will be brief, as he is scheduled to retire on February 24, 2024, he is recognized for his integrity, honesty, and competence in his service to the court.
The Collegium emphasized his distinguished service and recommended his appointment based on the Memorandum of Procedure despite the short duration, given the circumstances of Justice Varale’s elevation.
