Delhi :Delhi and its neighboring National Capital Region (NCR) experienced unexpected rainfall accompanied by thundershowers for the second consecutive day amidst harsh winter conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more showers throughout the day.
The IMD predicts moderate-intensity rain with thundershowers in various parts of Delhi-NCR, including Narela, Alipur, Vivek Vihar, Jafarpur, Nazafgarh, Palam, Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, Mahrauli, Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, and Greater Noida.
Wednesday morning’s downpour resulted in road blockages and waterlogging in some areas across the national capital, causing inconvenience to residents. Additionally, several trains and flights experienced delays due to adverse weather conditions.
The unexpected rainfall is attributed to the influence of two western disturbances, as stated by the IMD. One disturbance is currently traversing Delhi, resulting in light to moderate rainfall in some areas, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Another disturbance from Rohtak and Jhajjar (Haryana) heading towards Delhi is expected to bring another spell of light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds.
In addition to Delhi, several nearby areas are also expected to witness similar downpours on Thursday. The IMD forecasts thunderstorms with moderate-intensity rain in regions including Rajaund, Safidon, Barwala, Jind, Panipat, Gohana, Gannaur, Meham, Sonipat, Rohtak, Kharkhoda, Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Nuh (Haryana), Baraut, Meerut, Khekra, Modinagar, Amroha, Garhmukteshwar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Siyana, Sambhal, Billari, Chandausi, Bulandshahar, Jahangirabad, Bahajoi (UP), and Bhiwari (Rajasthan). Light to moderate rain is expected in areas adjoining Moradabad, Rampur, Iglas, Raya, Hathras, and Mathura (UP) in the next two hours, according to the IMD bulletin.
