InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent firm of IndiGo, has announced plans to launch an all-electric air taxi service in India in collaboration with US-based Archer Aviation. This futuristic service aims to revolutionize urban transportation, offering passengers swift travel between Delhi and Gurugram in just seven minutes.
Swift Commute: Delhi to Gurugram in 7 Minutes
The air taxi service will utilize electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft supplied by Archer Aviation. Each aircraft can accommodate four passengers along with the pilot and will operate similarly to helicopters but with reduced noise levels and enhanced safety features.
Ticket Prices and Certification Process
Archer Aviation executives estimate ticket prices for the seven-minute flight from Connaught Place to Gurugram to range between Rs 2,000 to 3,000 for the five-seater eVTOL aircraft. The company is in advanced discussions with the US regulator Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for certification, with expectations for certification next year. Subsequently, the certification process will commence with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India.
Expansion Plans
The firm anticipates commencing its air taxi services in India by 2026, with plans to deploy 200 eVTOL aircraft for operations. Additionally, similar air taxi services are slated for launch in Mumbai and Bengaluru, catering to urban commuters seeking efficient transportation solutions.
Enhanced Connectivity and Time Savings
The air taxi service offers a remarkable reduction in travel time compared to conventional ground transportation. While a car typically takes around 90 minutes to cover the 27-kilometer distance between Connaught Place and Gurugram, the air taxi service significantly reduces travel time, providing passengers with a swift and convenient commute option.
