A 26-year-old resident from Michigan has hit a jackpot worth nearly ₹4.2 crore, thanks to what he describes as a peculiar “sign” he received from his celebrity lookalike while watching a movie. Intrigued by the resemblance, he decided to try his luck with a lottery ticket, as reported by Fox.
Preferring to remain anonymous, the young man shared his story on the Michigan Lottery website, explaining, “I was watching a movie and the main character won big on a lottery ticket. The main character was my lookalike, so I took it as a sign to go buy a ticket.”
Following this hunch, he purchased a $5 ticket marked as lucky number 13 from a local food mart. The Michigan Lottery introduced the lucky number 13 scratch-off games in April the previous year, with one top prize of $500,000 remaining unclaimed, along with over $7 million in additional prizes.
Upon scratching the ticket later that day with some friends, he was astonished to discover he had won $500,000. Overwhelmed by the news, he double-checked the ticket in the bathroom to confirm his win before sharing it with his girlfriend.
Expressing his gratitude for the windfall, he stated, “I feel so blessed to win this amount of money.” He plans to utilize the winnings for a vacation and towards his children.
Established in 1972, the Michigan Lottery has played a significant role in supporting the state’s education system. Proceeds from ticket sales directly contribute to the Michigan School Aid Fund, with the Michigan Lottery website reporting a contribution of over $1.3 billion to the fund in FY23.
