New Delhi: The Supreme Court announced its intention to consider the CBI’s petition challenging the Karnataka High Court’s decision to halt the investigation into Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case. ASG SV Raju, representing the CBI, asserted that the investigation had been halted based on false information.
Previously, the CBI had informed the court that the High Court’s interim stay was granted without giving them an opportunity to present their case. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Shivakumar, requested time to file a response. The court will continue hearing the case on Friday. In June, the Karnataka High Court suspended the probe by the CBI, prompting the agency to appeal to the Supreme Court.
On October 17, the Supreme Court declined to lift the Karnataka High Court’s interim order staying the investigation into the DA case against Shivakumar but requested his response to the CBI’s appeal against the court’s decision. In its petition, the CBI alleged that the total value of acquisitions by Shivakumar and his family members between April 2013 and April 2018 had increased from Rs 128 crore to Rs 162 crore, a nearly 45 percent increase or roughly Rs 75 crore.
